CRANKSHAFT GRINDER CHUCKS. This chuck is available with 3 jaws only and is referred as CRC-3. This chuck is similar to Normal Standard Chuck. The only difference is that the gripping portion of jaws have serrations & rod of Operating key is longer. This is done to obtain maximum grip on crankshaft.

You need 2 shafts of about 1 to 2" stock (big truck kingpins work nice) by about a foot long. Chuck one up in each chuck. Make a couple test plunges on each, the one in the headstock and the one in the tailstock, near the chuck and on the end of the pin hanging out, to the same nominal diameter. (4 plunges, same diameter)

Tighten the head and tailstock up just like you were going to grind a crankshaft. Put the test bars in each chuck, but unlike the first tests where you needed to have all the teeth contacting the test bars, grip the test bars with only one tooth of the jaws. Use your machine's setup indicator to "zero" the test bars.

It's a chuck on each end that can he offset and indexed. They can also do fun stuff like increase crank stroke by offset grinding the journals. There are also follower head grinders where the head moves to follow the existing journals. More for production rebuilding as it cannot make a crank profile only regrind the existing.
