We worked a 40 hour week, nights and weekends off. The senior NCO's and all the officers lived in various hotels in town. Lower ranks, like me, lived on the base. An interesting way to wage war. Vung tau itself was an in-country R&R center, and servicemen could stay for several days, each year. Some of us were there for a full year.
