Apr 2015 Posts 7 Difference between Loar LM-170 and LM-175 Anybody knows the difference between Loar LM-170 and 175? There's a $50 price difference between them, and from the description, all I could tell is that, instead of "back and side: maple" in 170, the 175 has "back and side: flamed maple".

The LM-170 mandolin is perfectly suited to bluegrass and does well in other modern styles. The hand-carved top allows a good resonant tone and nice chop. Because of the "V" profile, 1-1/8 inch nut and large fret wire, it makes for a very easy to play mandolin. The neck also has an adjustable truss rod.

Afer a year of internet drifting, I got fixated on the Kentucky KM-252 and I was so close to ordering it, when I took (I thought) one last look on Thomann.de stock and found The Loar LM-170 VSM. Now, ordering from Germany is much less expensive, so the total costs for the mandolins (with hard cases) would be: Kentucky KM-252: 650€ / 707$
